The American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics (ABC) is the national certifying and accrediting body for the orthotic and prosthetic professions. The public requires and deserves assurance that the persons providing orthotic, prosthetic, and pedorthic services and care are qualified to provide the appropriate services, and it was on this basis that the ABC was established as a credentialing organization.

The American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists was founded in November of 1970 to further the scientific and educational attainments of professional practitioners in the disciplines of orthotics and prosthetics. The need for such an organization had earlier been agreed to by the leadership of the American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association (AOPA), a trade association serving the interests of orthotic and prosthetic facilities, manufacturers, and suppliers; and the American Board for Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics (ABC), the sole U.S. credentialing agency at that time for practitioners and facilities in this area of rehabilitation health care.

The American Orthotic & Prosthetic Association (AOPA) is a national trade association committed to providing high quality, unprecedented business services and products to O&P professionals. Since our founding in 1917, we have worked diligently to establish ourselves as the voice for O&P businesses. Through government relations efforts, AOPA works to raise awareness of the profession and impact policies that affect the future of the O&P industry. AOPA membership consists of over 1,900 O&P patient care facilities and suppliers that manufacture, distribute, design, fabricate, fit, and supervise the use of orthoses (orthopedic braces) and prostheses (artificial limbs). Membership in AOPA represents a professional milestone; it is recognition of leadership and achievement in the O&P community.

The American Anaplastology Association is an international organization founded in 1980 and incorporated in California as a 501c4 Nonprofit Mutual Benefit Corporation. The association was created to bring together a wide variety of specialists involved in providing restorative prostheses for patients with facial and somato disfigurements due to cancer, trauma, or congenital origin.
